Elbows, Body Shots, and a Whole Lot of Heart
Our young Revolution Muay Thai fighter, Toby Jopling just stepped into the ring last week for his second Muay Thai fight in three weeks – and this one was a big one.
Fighting under on the Coastal Warfare show at the Banana Bender Pub, Toby was making his elbow debut – which, for any Muay Thai fighter, is a massive milestone.
This kid’s been training the house down all year. Whether it’s interclubs, hard rounds in the gym, or short-notice sparring days, Toby’s been jumping into anything and everything competitive.
His opponent? A tough young gun named Chris Mizzi from Rumble Muay Thai on the Gold Coast. This wasn’t going to be an easy fight.
Round One: Feeling out the opponent… And getting dumped.
We’ve been working hard on avoiding slow starts; there’s no time to waste with just 3x 2-minutes rounds. Even though it was a close first round, Chris most likely edged it out with a well-timed sweep and dump that scored with the judges.
Round Two: Turning up the heat.
Back in the corner, Toby knew it was time to shift gears. In round two, Toby started to find his rhythm – cleaner techniques, sharper combos, and some vicious body shots that got the crowd reacting. Round two went to Toby.
Round Three: Digging deep.
We knew round three would be the decider, and Toby stepped up like a seasoned pro. Midway through the round, he landed a nasty liver shot that visibly buckled Chris. The kid didn’t go down – credit where it’s due – but it was a big moment. Round three to Toby.
The Result – Toby for the win by unanimous decision.
After three tough rounds between two talented young fighters, the judges gave it to Toby by unanimous decision. A solid win in front of a packed local crowd, and one more step forward in this young fighter’s career.
Special Thanks
Big shout out to Hayden and Charlie for helping in the corner, and to everyone who came down to support!
Expect to see Toby back in the ring soon!
